Abstract

Retrobulbar hemodynamics of normal tension glaucoma patients and aged-matched normal controls is analysed. Blood flow in the ophthalmic artery was analysed using UDD 03 developed on the basis of IBM PC 386 (Kaunas University of Technology) working in CDI mode for investigation of peripheral vessels. Peak systolic and end-diastoloc velocities, Gossling pulsatility and Pourcelot resisitivity indices were analysed. The results show that retrobulbar hemodynamics is altered in glaucoma patients. Medical treatment significantly decresed resistivity index, increased blood flow velocities, improving ocular perfusion dynamics. Regulation of ocular perfusion is important impeding ischaemic damage and preventing ganglion cell death in glaucoma patients.
