Application of CLEAN algorithm in ultrasonic NDT for distinct detection of close peaks in a pulse compression system

Distinct detection of close reflection peaks in ultrasonic pulse compression system is difficult because of partial overlapping between main peaks and side lobes. This problem can be overcome by utilizing the basic principle of a diverse field algorithm. The CLEAN algorithm, which is popular in image processing of radio astronomy data, has been implemented effectively in ultrasonic testing for distinguishing between close peaks and removing side lobes completely. The algorithm has been implemented successfully in the detection of close holes in metal plates and some potential use of the method has been described.Downloads
